Last week Peter was congratulated by Jesus for discerning the things of God, but this week Jesus says to Peter, ‘Get behind me Satan!’ So what had Peter done wrong? Peter had allowed the yeast, or the teachings, of the Pharisees and the Sadducees to be mixed in with what Jesus had taught him about the Messiah. For Jesus had come to suffer and die so that He could save us, but Peter and the 12 had in mind to the type of Messiah that God needed Jesus to be.
